KRAPINA NEANDERTHAL MUSEUM
New Museum of Krapina Neanderthals is the most modern museum of the subject in Europe. On February, 28th 2010, the museum opened its doors to visitors. Its construction began in 1999 at the 100th anniversary of Krapina's discovery of prehistoric man. The construction began near the finding sites, between Hušnjakovo and Josipovac hills to be exact.
The tour of the museum lasts for an hour, during which visitors are presented with the large diorama as the main attraction. This diorama is impressive as it is an authentic reconstruction of 17 Neanderthal families. Legacy of Homosapiens, seen through detection sites that depict life of Krapina's Neanderthals, and their development all the way up to humans traveling to the outerspace are presented by a range of multimedia utensils: film, 3D projections, music and sounds that „accompanied“ prehistoric habitants.
The museum was designed by architect Željko Kovačić, and Jakov Radovčić is responsible for the exhibition.
