Open-air Church of the Blessed Aloysius Stepinac
The area at the foot of the Calvary hill is known as the Open-air Church. The main building is the sacred altar with an accompanying structure, the partition wall called ‘the Wall of Faith and Hope’. Next to the altar, there is a large poster with an image of cardinal Stepinac, made according to the painting by Josip Biffel.
The ceremony of the grand opening of the poster coincided with the beatification of God’s honourable servant Aloysius Stepinac by the Holy Father Pope John Paul II.
Each object on the altar is treated as a relic by the pilgrims. The painting of Aloysius Stepinac, the reliefs on the altar and ambo, the throne, the ‘Wall of Faith and Hope’… all this reminds people of the great and memorable event that spread the glory of the Bistrica shrine and Aloysius Stepinac and made them eternal.
